Gypsy Jazz Quintet

French-American Swing

Formed in 2006 by guitarist and arranger John Curtin, the Gypsy Jazz Quintet pays tribute to the legendary gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt and the “hot club” jazz style popular in 1930s Paris.

The Gypsy Jazz Quintet also features:

Vince Marrone (guitar): A NYC-based guitarist exploring gypsy jazz, influenced by straight-ahead jazz, fusion, funk and R&B.

Bob Wilson (bass): A self-taught bassist from Honesdale influenced by Jaco Pastorius, Charles Mingus, Dave Holland and others.

Nick Driscoll (clarinet): Director of the Wilkes University Jazz Orchestra with influences ranging from Django Reinhardt to Stephane Grappelli. He has performed with the NEPA Philharmonic.

Mark Woodyatt (violin): The first student accepted to Eastman School of Music for Jazz Violin, influenced by Jean-Luc Ponty, Bela Fleck, Chick Corea and more.

The quintet has performed at festivals, colleges, jazz clubs and resorts, receiving acclaim for their high musicianship and energetic renditions of gypsy jazz. Their 2011 live album “Live at the Deer Head Inn” was highly praised.
