About the Artist

People often tell me the history of their land, their farms, and speak of generations when I’m painting. The wild landscape or cityscape speak to me of timeless things, or the passage of time.  My paintings are a representation of those stories.”  Susan Whiteman, January 2024

Susan Whiteman is a lifelong artist and has been on the plein air “circuit” for the last twelve years.  She won First Place in the Adirondack Artists Guilds 2019 show for her pastel, “Our Little Town,” and has won numerous other awards for works in oil.  She’s been featured in solo shows across New York State, and has been accepted into innumerable competitive shows and painting events.  Her current work is in oil and watercolor.  Though her degree is in health care, her education includes interior design, and decades of classes and workshops with master painters.  She’s taught classes in painting at View, and The Wild Center in the Adirondacks.  She is a member of and president of NorthWind Fine Arts Gallery in Saranac Lake and has sat on various art-associated boards and is a juried member of the Pastel Society of America.

Susan is a native New Yorker, and while she spent time living in New Jersey, she’s back in New York, and lives in the Adirondacks with her husband and fierce little rescue dog, Eloise.
